Heaton is the perfect area for any student looking for value for money, affordable accommodation without compromising on space. Some areas in Heaton are in walking distance to Newcastle City Centre and others are easily accessible by the No. 1 bus which runs every 5-10 minutes or alternatively you can use the Metro train. When you think about Heaton ‘Chillingham Road’ immediately springs to mind. The heart of this thriving area, you can feel the hustle and bustle of this busy street which is full of shops, cafes, food outlets and bars meaning residents have everything they need right on their doorstep.

The Heaton area benefits from a diverse selection of popular high street shops and smaller independent boutiques. These include Sainsburys and Tescos for weekly grocery shopping. There is really something for everyone – the Corner House Public House, People’s Theatre and local gym. Heaton’s green spaces are widely known. Heaton and Armstrong parks are two of the five parks which make up Ouseburn Parks. The other three Parks are Jesmond Dene, Jesmond Vale and Paddy Freeman’s all located within a two mile stretch of each other from end to end.

Throughout these parks there are plenty of wildlife, footpaths and historical site to explore. You can also visit Heaton Park. Why not take a stroll, have a picnic or visit the Shoe Tree – join locals in the tradition of throwing your shoes in to the tree as first done by Sheriff Babington in 1627 upon the birth of his Grandson. Or for a further slice of history, the ruins of King John’s Tower and the remains of a 13th century Tower.
