Selective Licensing Changes in Newcastle
What’s changing?
We want to inform you about important changes affecting landlords in Newcastle. The Newcastle City Council Cabinet has approved a new Selective Licensing Scheme, effective from 5 April 2025.
The following areas will be impacted by new Selective Licensing rules starting in April 2025
- Columbia Grange
- Cowgate
- Denton Court
- HHRS (Howlet Hall Road, Howdene Road, Ravenburn Gardens, Swinley Gardens)
- Lemington
- West End
Additionally, the two areas have been operating since October 2021:
- Byker Old Town
- Greater High Cross
The East End Terraces areas, including Heaton, Sandyford, and parts of Jesmond, will no longer be included as Selective Licensing Areas as of April 2025.

NEW APPLICATION PORTAL
Newcastle City Council have also launched a new portal to apply for licensing, you can find this here. You will have to register a new account to use this. Applications are no longer accepted on Metastreet.
